Kayleigh POV

“Could you pass me the milk, Cara” Lucy asked as we all sat around the kitchen eating our breakfast.

“Liam, want to go finish packing up?” Louis asked. Louis and Liam left the kitchen and Zayn followed.

“Niall and I are going to do a run through of the house; make sure we didn’t forget anything.” Harry said.

“Well girls. Are we ready?” Sadie asked. We were quiet.

“No…” I smiled. I was scared. I was scared to tell the fans about mine and Liam’s engagement. I was scared to be away from everything for three months and I was scared of growing up.

“No matter what happens, it’s the five of us, we know that.” Bella winked. We all stood up. Bella groaned as we all joined in for a group hug. “I didn’t mean for that to lead to this.”

“Our lives have changed so much.” Lucy sniffled.

“Everything has changed so much… including us.” Cara giggled as a tear rolled down her cheek.

“For real, if the old me could see me now…”

“She’d probably punch her” Sadie snorted. We all laughed in agreement.

“For the better.” I put my hand in the middle of our circle. They piled their hands on top of mine.

“For the better” they all repeated. We smiled and headed out to the car.

“Is that everything?” Niall asked as we packed away the last of our suitcases in the trunk.

“I think so.” Zayn said. It was silent for a moment.

“This is weird.” Sadie said. We all chuckled a little.

“It is.” Harry agreed.

“I DON’T WANT TO LEAVE!” Louis yelled, running toward a tree to hug it.

“None of us do, but think of what we have ahead of us.” Cara smiled. We the world tour was just around the corner. We were literally going home for two days to pack and say goodbye to our families and then away for the entire summer. The boys were going worldwide. That is absolutely huge. They deserve this more than anyone I know and none of us could be more proud. Dreams have come alive for us. Dreams we didn’t even know we had until they were right in front of us.   I linked arms with Liam and rested my head on his shoulder as we all looked at the lake house. I smiled, remembering all of the times we had.

“Shall we hit the road?” Bella tapped Louis’ bum and got into the car. We all followed. There was still a somber silence as we all reminisced in our minds. Today, a part of us was being put in the past. We were no longer children. We’d grown up together and intended on growing old together, however somehow we all knew things were about to change. Drastically. Yes; a part of us was falling away today but a new adventure was being born. None of us could tell exactly what the future would hold. We were immature and reckless but honest and naïve. Now we’re new people. We’d torn away the old versions of ourselves to make room for our new adventuress. Some of us haven’t changed a bit, some of us are still changing and some of us are entirely different people than they were three years ago. We were growing up, yes. But, we all knew somehow, in some way. Shape or form, we’d always be, forever young. 

Niall POV

“Good morning, baby” I climbed into bed in the middle of Lucy and Sadie, kissing Lucy’s forehead.

“Niall…” Sadie groaned. “Get your ass out of my bed.”

“Oh, come on.” I wrapped an arm around each of them, who were still half asleep. “My two favourite girls don’t want me around anymore, now that I’m famous, huh?”

“Niall shut up” Cara moaned from the other bed.

“You know I’m not feeling very loved here.” I said.

“Oh, sorry Niall, what we meant was we love you” Kayleigh said, climbing into bed with us. Cara followed her until all five of us were piled onto one bed.

“Yeah, Niall, you’re the best” Cara said, snuggling into my chest.

“You’re so cozy Niall.” Lucy touched my hair.

“Exactly what do you think you’re doing Mr. Horan, that is an engaged woman you’re in bed with.” Liam came into the room.

“She’s all over me, man.” I shrugged, joking. Liam climbed onto the bed.  

“Oh, Niall, you are cozy.” He said lying on top of all of us. We groaned.

“I can’t breathe, mate!” I complained. Everyone got up. “Jeez, remind me not to complain about the lack of love around here.” I kissed Lucy and everyone got ready. We decided to spend our last day at the lake house by the lake, swimming, tanning, messing around.

“Don’t wanna be a fool for you, just another player in your game for two” Sadie and Zayn sang along to the iPod while they danced on the dock, using it as a stage. They wanted to show us how they’d memorized the entire dance. We all clapped when they finished.

“Well done!” Cara laughed. They bowed and laughed.

“It’s getting kind of dark, should we clean up and get a bonfire started?” Harry suggested. We all agreed and changed into warm clothes. We hung our towels out to dry for the last time and deflated all of the tubes and rafts. Sadie, Cara and Harry went to get stuff for s’mores and the rest of us got the fire together and set up with blankets. I ran inside to get my guitar in case we wanted to do some fireside jamming. I was sort of surprised when I saw Lucy sitting on my bed.

“Hello beautiful” I said, startling her a bit.

“Oh, hey babe.” She said somewhat nervously. I leaned against the door frame.

“Whatcha doin?” I asked raising my eyebrows.

“Um. Well I was kind waiting for you actually. She smiled, patting the spot next to her on the bed for me to sit. I joined her.

“What’s up?” I asked, taking her hand in mine and kissing it. She smiled.

“I wanted to say something kind of cheesy. I love you. I can’t really express how happy I am that I’m your girlfriend and you’re my boyfriend. I can’t believe I found someone who is basically me with a penis.” I burst out laughing. “It’s true; I mean we’re basically the same person.” I shrugged and laughed. It is true. “Anyway I don’t feel like I say it enough and since this is kind of an emotional night, I thought I’d say it now.” I couldn’t hide the grin that was forming on my face and I knew I was blushing.

“You’re perfect, you know.” She winked and I kissed her. I put an arm around her and tilted her back onto the bed. Our lips were moving effortlessly together and I felt my head start to swim. She broke our kiss.

“I should say that to you more often.” She giggled, slightly out of breath.

“Say it again” I smiled.

Zayn POV

“Ayo” I walked into the kitchen.

“Sup” Sadie called back.

“We’re just gonna bring the stuff outside.” Harry said as he and Cara left the kitchen.

“You ready?” I asked her. I took her hand and lead her outside.

“Hey.” She stopped me and pulled my hand back to her. I looked at her, confused. “I love you.” She smiled.

“You’re gross and smelly.” I responded. She flipped me off and stuck her tongue out. I quickly pinched her tongue between my fingers. She squealed. “Don’t stick your tongue out, it’s rude, you know.” I chuckled. She bit my finger. “Ouch!” I complained.

“Don’t grab people’s tongues, you fuckin weirdo.” She shot back. She was about to shove past me, but I caught her. I looked at her, raising my eyebrows.

“Sadie…”

“I know you were joking, but, Zayn I was trying to be nice.” I pressed her up against the cupboards and put my hands on either side of her face and in her hair.

“Sadie Brooke Payne.” I began. “I love you more than anyone or anything on this whole planet. The reason I don’t say it often is because you and I both know I’d swim over oceans just to see the tiniest hint of a smile on your lips. I don’t have to say ‘I love you’ every five seconds because whether I say it or not, you know it and I know it and that’s not gonna change.” There was a moment of silence before she answered me.

“Yeah, I know.” She let out a small smile. “It’s just, sometimes I hate the intenseness of our relationship and how we’re so drama filled and weird. Sometimes I just wanna be cute with you and I want you to play with my hair while I read and sing to me while I shower and go on walks with me and stuff.” She was playing with the collar of my shirt and not making eye contact while she spoke. “Sometimes I miss how we were before I…left last year. We were innocent and stupid and it was easy. Now it all seems sharp and everything we do has a deeper meaning and I sort of hate it sometimes. I miss the old us. I wasn’t so sarcastic and asshole-y and you weren’t so rough and tough.”

“Come here.” I took her hand and walked with her to the couch. I lay down and pulled her with me. She was little spoon and I was big spoon. I started humming in her ear and I ran my fingers through her hair. I wrapped my other arm around her tightly, just holding her. “We can go outside soon, but I just want you to feel happy with me for right now. Just for a moment.” We lay there, synchronizing our breathing.  “You’re still that precious, innocent girl to me, Sades.” She took a deep breath and kissed my arm that was around her.  “I love you so much.”

Harry POV

“Love you too, mom” I was prying my mother off of me as all of our parents were leaving. It was actually pretty emotional because this was the last time we’d see them for a few months.

“Bye, Cara, baby, love you too.” She hugged Cara too. After lots of hugs and kisses and tears, all of our parents were on their way back home. We all collapsed onto the couches in the living room.

“That was exhausting, y’all.” Kayleigh yawned. We all agreed.

“I know it’s late and we’re all sleepy, but do you guys want to take a walk?” Cara asked. “I mean, we’re only here for two more nights…” Of course we couldn’t say no. We put sweatshirts on because of the chilly summer night’s breeze and headed out to walk by the lake.

“You know, this is where Niall asked me to be his girlfriend.” You could practically see Lucy’s smile in the dark. “Right over there, in the water, by the dock.”

“And look where we are now.” Niall kissed her forehead.

“Remember when Zayn pushed me in the water off the dock over there?” Sadie said, pointing. “And I almost killed him.”

“Well I’m glad you didn’t kill me, baby.” Zayn tossed an arm over Sadie’s shoulders.

“Mehhh…me too, I guess.” She joked back.

“Louis and I don’t seem to have such lovely memories here.” Bella giggled. “Ahem, Kayleigh and Louis, ahem.” She cleared her throat. We all laughed.

“Oh my god, why do you always bring this up?” Louis was going red.

“Hey, that was a great relationship.” Kayleigh laughed. “A short, weird, virtually emotionless, great relationship.”

“That it was.” Louis laughed. “However I’m quite fond of my new girlfriend, sorry Kayls.”

“I know the feeling.” Kayleigh smiled and kissed Liam.

“I know this is kinda personal and I don’t talk about it often, but, in that back bedroom is where I first confessed to Harry everything that had happened to me with Alex. That was such a bad time in my life, but it’s a happy memory because I’m proud of who I am now, you know?”

“We’re proud of you too, Care.” Lucy smiled, sweetly. I kissed Cara, feeling an overwhelming sense of pride over how far she’d come. That scared, lonely girl who’d told me all of those horrible things was so far gone and the woman standing before me now was brave and beautiful.

“I love you so much, Cara.” I whispered so only she could hear. She kissed my cheek.

“Let’s not forget finding Kayleigh and Liam mud wrestling in the rain.”

“We were not mud wrestling! We slipped and fell into some mud!” Kayleigh tried to defend them. We all just laughed.

“And look where we are now.” Liam repeated Niall from earlier. “Still wet and muddy.”

“Wha-?” Kayleigh looked confused. She couldn’t finish her question before Liam picked her up and ran with her straight into the lake. I looked at Cara and I didn’t even have to pick her up. She grabbed my hand and ran with me into the water. I looked behind me to see everyone else following.

“IT’S FUCKING FREEZING!” Cara screamed. We all laughed and agreed.

“I’ll keep you warm, babe.” I said, hugging her close. She wrapped her legs around me in the water. We all splashed around a bit in the water before we actually couldn’t stand the cold anymore. We walked out onto the shore, soaking wet. I was still holding onto Cara, with her legs wrapped around me.

“You know your eyes are really pretty in the moonlight, Styles.” She smiled, kissing my forehead. She hopped down, out of my arms and walked toward the house.

“You know your ass looks really good in those wet jeans, in the moonlight, Phillips.” I admired as she walked ahead of me. She turned her head and winked as she unbuttoned her jeans, stepping out of them and shaking her butt at me before rushing inside. I shook my head at her, smiling and I chased her into the house. 

Bella POV

“Found ya.” Louis grabbed me from behind, wrapping his arms around my waist. His face nuzzled into my hair. “I heard the news.” He kissed my cheek. “All summer long, on tour, with One Direction, you are one lucky girl.”

“Hmmm, no I’m pretty sure it’s you who’s the lucky one.” I smiled, turning around.

“Oh how could I be so silly?” He mocked me. I leaned my head toward his, letting our foreheads touch. “You okay?” he asked, looking around at the rest of the parents here. Considering my father was dead and I hadn’t seen my mother in about a year, I’d say mine weren’t about to show up. I nodded. “I know it’s hard seeing everyone else’s family here and-” I kissed him to shut him up.

“You’re my family, Tomlinson.” I touched his cheek. “I don’t need anyone else…well except maybe Ryan.” I referred to my little brother. Louis smiled. I saw a little gleam in his eye. You know the one where he’s basically declaring his unending love for you with just one look in his eye and you almost want to die and blah blah blah. “Ew. This is getting way too mushy for me.” I pushed him away, but held onto his hand. I pulled him toward where Lucy and Niall were talking to Niall’s parents. I always liked watching Lucy interact with them because she looked so out of place. His parents were so prim and proper, yet, Lucy looked like she hadn’t brushed her hair in about three days. As if she could hear my thoughts, she ran a nervous hand through it.

“Hello, Mr. and Mrs. Horan.” Louis smiled.

“Hello again, Mr. Tomlinson!” Mr. Horan smiled and shook his hand. “And Miss Giovanni. Looking more beautiful than ever!” I smiled as he kissed my cheek. We politely excused ourselves and I winked at Lucy. We moved on through the crowd. We saw Kayleigh and Liam chatting with Zayn and his mother and didn’t want to interrupt so we moved along and saw Lucy and Cara’s dad’s talking. We were about to say hello when-

“Bella!” I heard someone call me… a very familiar voice…but it couldn’t be. I turned around and almost dropped my drink.

“Mom…?” there she stood. Sadie was behind her, giving me an apprehensive look.

“Baby! Oh, baby it’s been too long.” She tossed her arms around me.

“Mom, wh-where- I mean. What. What are you doing here?” I asked, still unsure I was seeing straight.

“Well, your friend Liam over there invited me to this little soirée and I don’t see how I could pass it up!” she gave me a huge toothy smile. How had Liam even found her address?

“Mom, can I talk to you over here for a minute?” I pulled her into a bedroom. I nodded to Louis that I’d be okay. “Well, I, how have you been? I thought I’d never see you again.” We’d left on pretty bad terms. It was after Heidi (my step sister) died and my mom had a pretty serious problem with alcohol. Carl, my absolute ass of a step father had left her and she basically threw me out. I hadn’t seen her this happy and…normal…since before my dad died.

“I’m four months clean and sober, Nic.” She was the only person in the world to call me Nic (my middle name is Nicole). “There’s something else… I got Ryan back. He’s living with me in an apartment in Bristol. Really close to grandma’s house, just in case.” I couldn’t believe it. I started to feel tears…real tears. I couldn’t remember the last time I’d cried. She came over to hug me.

“Mom, I’m so incredibly proud of you.” We stood there for what felt like hours. “I never thought I’d see you this happy again.”

“Neither did I, baby.” She wiped the tears from under my eyes and I did the same to her. I heard a knock on the door. Louis poked his head in.

“Hi…I was a little worried when it got so quiet…wanted to make sure there was no was killing each other or anything.” We chuckled.

“Lou…” My mother went to hug him. “Thank you for taking such good care of my baby while I couldn’t.”

“I’d do anything for that girl, Rene…scary isn’t it?” he smiled. I followed them out the door and back to everyone else.

“Rene!?” Lucy looked shocked when she saw my mother.

“Hi Lac.” She smiled, greeting Lucy in a huge hug. (My mom had a huge thing for nicknames… ‘Lac’ was Lucy’s initials: Lucy Autumn Caldwell.

“I missed you R-Geves” Lucy squeezed her back. (R- Geves= Rene Giovanni) sometimes I think Lucy is more of my mother’s daughter than I am. Louis winked at me and I winked back, you know, for once, things are really looking up for me…I like it.

Sadie POV

“DAD!” I yelled as soon as I opened the door.

“Sadie!” he smiled and hugged me. After Liam proposed, he wanted our parents and Kayleigh’s to come to the lake house for a day so we could all be happy and celebrate together. He felt bad only inviting our family so he opened the invitation to everyone’s parents….yeah I know… that’s a lot of people. Slowly everyone’s parents started to trickle into the house. Once everyone was here, we heard a clinking sound coming from the middle of the living room.

“Hello everyone!” Liam spoke loudly, with an arm around Kayleigh. We all looked to him. “I don’t want to make this cheesy or anything, but I really appreciate you all coming today to celebrate with us. Kayls and I couldn’t imagine sharing the news and not having all of you here with us. So thanks.” He raised his glass and everyone cheered and took a drink. A dull buzz of chatter and laughter rose as everyone mingled.

“So how’ve things been, Sades?” my mom asked, putting an arm over my shoulder and walking with me outside.

“Good, mom, good. The boys leave for tour in about…oh, wow, um four days.” I didn’t know why but instead of being happy about getting to go on tour with my boyfriend and be an apprentice to Lou as a makeup artist, I was sort of sad.

“What’s wrong, kitten? Aren’t you excited?” she asked, sitting down with me on a bench.

“Yeah, super, but, I’m going to miss home…and Kayleigh and Cara and Bella… it won’t be the same with just Lucy and I.” I saw my mother start to smirk and it really annoyed me. “Look, mom I know it doesn’t seem like a big deal to you, but-”

“Sadie, no it’s not that! It’s just…well after Liam called us the other night, saying he had proposed, I couldn’t imagine him being so far from Kayleigh for 6 months, so I called the school…” I was getting anxious. “They said it would be no problem for Cara and Kayleigh to take their courses online and travel through the summer. Of course, when school start again, they’ll have to return, but for at least three or four months, they can be with you all on tour.”

“AHHH! Mom, thank you!” I hugged her and she just laughed. “Are they cool with it?” I asked.

“Yes, they are very excited.”

“I have to go talk to them about it!” I got up and ran to find them. Wait. Bella. I had to find her first. I spotted her talking to Louis’ mom.

“Hi Jay. Bells.” I greeted them, hugging Jay.

“Sadie, you look gorgeous!” Jay complimented me.

“Well thanks very much, but I look no better than you.” I smiled. “Jay, do you mind if I steal Bella for just a moment?” she obliged and I led Bella to the hallway.

“What’s up?” She asked, absentmindedly playing with the tassels on my dress.

“Bell, um, you know how Lucy and I are going on tour with the boys this summer?” she nodded. “Well I just got news that Cara and Kayls are planning on doing online courses and traveling with us instead of doing summer school.”

“Oh…” she looked up at me. “Well you guys will have a lot of fun.” She smiled half-heartedly.

“No! That’s the thing, Bells, we won’t. Not without you. There’s got to be a way that you can come with us.” She stood there looking like she was thinking very hard about it.

“Well…I think there’s another photo trip in the fall? I could see if I can be switched into that one?” She smiled….I screamed.

“YES!!!” I jumped and hugged her and followed her back to the party. I sighed loudly. “This is going to be one bomb ass summer, Bells, just you wait and see.”
